The Niagara Region is growing more diverse in creed and religious beliefs and practices. The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) is committed to fostering diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and working environments that promote acceptance and protect individuals from discrimination and harassment based on the protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code. Creed and/or religion is one of the grounds that is both an individual right and a collective responsibility. The DSBN recognizes and embraces the creed diversity represented in its students, staff, and community members.

As we start our school year, I invite you to share with me your family’s most significant creed-based holiday(s). We will work together through the accommodation request process as Forestview recognizes the importance of families celebrating their creed and/or religious beliefs and practices.

The DSBN has created a Family Guide: Recognizing and Respecting Creed Diversity to support families in requesting accommodations. This guide has also been translated into the following languages; Arabic, French, Hungarian, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Urdu and Vietnamese, which can be viewed on the DSBN Equity webpage. For a list of Days of Significance, please refer to the Days of Significance Calendar.

Our Parking Lot Update

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas resolving parking lot safety concerns. On Monday night, School Council had an in-depth discussion about our parking lot, and we created short-term and long-term plans that focus on everyone’s safety. The day after the School Council meeting Haley, Warren, and I brought these plans to the City of Niagara Falls. I’m pleased to let you know that next week, the city is going to come to Forestview for a site visit and to assess traffic flow. We are anticipating that this visit will help with solutions for safety and will result in a long-term plan by the city to alleviate traffic flow. An immediate short-term solution that starts the week of January 30 is monitoring by the Niagara Falls Parking Violations Division. Bylaw officers will enforce violations by issuing warnings and tickets for cars: parked in areas that are NOT considered designated spots, drivers stopped in the Bus lane or drivers not following parking lot signs.

Thank you for working together to find solutions for parking safety. I will give you more updates as our plans develop.

Student Support

This past year has been difficult in many ways, and has impacted us each so differently. We have had to adapt and adjust to constant change, most of which has been outside of our control. Here at DSBN, we believe that overall mental health and well-being play a critical role in school success.

Whether you are concerned about your child's mental wellness or would like information about community supports, our School Social Worker is here to help!

Please reach out to us if you feel that you would like additional information.
